Houston Epilepsy Center of Excellence
The Epilepsy Center of Excellence (ECoE) at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas specializes in the evaluation of patients with poorly controlled epilepsy, pre-surgical evaluation of epilepsy patients, consultation on treatment of difficult to control epilepsy patients, and the evaluation of patients with paroxysmal non-epileptic events.
The ECoE provides services to all eligible veterans in the southwest region. The Center utilizes state of the art digital diagnostic equipment. Services include electroencephalography (EEG), Video/EEG long-term monitoring (4 bed epilepsy monitoring unit), ambulatory EEG, comprehensive inpatient care, outpatient Epilepsy Clinics, patient education, epilepsy surgery, neuropsychological evaluations, and neuroradiological imaging including MRI, ictal SPECT, and PET scans.

Eligible Veterans within VISN 16 may be referred to the ECoE by their personal physician via CPRS Interfacility Consult (IFC).
Eligible Veterans outside VISN 16 may be referred to the Houston ECoE by their personal physician through the Houston Diagnostic Referral Center telephone number (713) 794-8245 or fax (713) 794-8244. Travel reimbursements are paid by the referring facility.
